Explore the beautiful River Stour in Suffolk on a guided canoe tour.
Our escorted canoe tours run downriver from the historic market town of Sudbury, through the Dedham Vale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty to the edge of the tidal estuary at Cattawade, near Manningtree.
This 25 mile stretch of river passes through some of the most idyllic Suffolk scenery and links together the homes of two of the most famous painters of the British landscape. We start at Sudbury, home to Thomas Gainsborough and pass through Bures, Nayland, Stratford St Mary, Dedham and the iconic Flatford Mill, made famous by John Constable.
The whole journey – known as the Sudbury to Sea Tour (S2C) – takes two days to complete and is a real challenge. We can help you complete the Sudbury to Sea, but it doesn’t have to be done in one go. We recommend doing the Upper River (Gainsborough) on one visit and then come back another time to do the Lower River (Constable). In May/June you can see ducklings and one range of wild flowers; by late August cygnets will be quite big and there’ll be a different range of flowers along the banks.
By using our experienced local guides and minibus transfers, complete beginners can enjoy the special experience of an A to B river journey. We take the hassle out of your holiday!
Tours are ideal for couples and friends, family groups, corporate team-building, work colleagues and clubs.
One-day & two-day guided tours are available during weekends or midweek. Our season runs from April to September each summer. We take a maximum of ten people per tour, which can be made up of several parties – but contact us if you have a slightly larger party.
Prices are £75/day for adults and £37.50/day for children under 14.
