River Stour Boating CIC was established in 2007 by four friends with the aim of sharing their love of the River Stour and to develop a low-impact tourist activity using local businesses.
A Community Interest Company is run as a business but aims to put profits back into community projects. Since 2007 RSB has built several public access jetties along the river, provided free tours for local disadvantaged groups and helped purchase a piece of riverside land in Bures for community use. The organisation relies on unpaid volunteers to run the tours and is always keen to hear from people who want to help. Full training is given for people to become river guides or drivers.
Over 1,000 people have now been on our tours, with many making return visits or being inspired to get their own canoe and enjoy this special part of East Anglia.
RSB Director Steve Mann comments: “Even local people who know this area well are surprised by the different views that you get from being on the river and how peaceful it is. It’s a lovely way for friends and family to spend quality time together.”
