Before each season we survey the whole river to check everthing is all OK before the start of our customer trips. This involves cutting away any small blockages or overhanging branches that will get in the way of canoeists and cleaning silt off the portages after the winter floods.
We also record the location by GPS of large trees that have fallen across the river during storms. This information is passed onto the Environment Agency for their Operations Team to remove them.
In this photo you can see one of our volunteers giving the portage at Lamarsh a good scrubbing. They also collected a canoe full of rubbish – plastic chairs, traffic cones, bags etc.
This activity is carried out for the benefit of all river users and is part of our Community Interest ethos.
