Tree Clearing at Pitmire Lock
As part of our mission to help people enjoy the Stour, we often do minor bits of branch cutting but leave the big tree blockages to the Environment Agency.
Pitmire Lock is a remote location between Great Henny and Bures. In it’s heyday, it had a resident lock-keeper and cottage on the lock island with open views across the meadows.
The small lock is now disused and crumbling away and the banks are overgrown with willows. Some of these have been undercut and fallen into the side channel causing a problem for paddlers.
Recently Charlie, Alan & Steve spent Good Friday morning clearing back some of the worst of the blockage.
Alan borrowed his wife’s chainsaw which made light work of the bigger trunks.
The channel will now be easier to paddle through for all the river users this summer.
